Discipline Helps Your Writing

Motivation is not enough to write. You can desire something so badly enough it's all you think about, but to actually acquire it is another story.

If you write only when you feel like it, sure you'll finish your book - in five years.

That's why discipline is so important to develop: it helps you sit down and type away even when you don't feel like it. You'll hate yourself at the moment, but thank yourself later for it.

So how do you develop it? By finishing what you start.

Start off small like washing the dishes right away or folding laundry. Instead of waiting till tomorrow, do it at that moment just to get it done. You'll feel so much better, I promise.

I personally hated doing chores (because, well, who doesn't?) but ever since I started doing this, I can complete things without complaining. Do you really want to wait for the dishes to pile up in the sink to get them done? Or just wash one right away?

It sounds weird, I know, but this really does help get your writing done faster when you form the habit of doing it every day (unless you're tired, then of course take a break and get back to it tomorrow).
